Airborne In Normandy   FAQs   Links    Homepage     Contact     About    WWII Research
Before this article begins, I would like to say, I don't like having to find another liar as I much rather write about the men from WWII who actual fought day in and day out. But when you step in crap, you have to wipe off the shoe before continuing on with your walk.

A Trench Foot Hero walks side by side with a Real Hero

In August of 2014 a WWII Veteran Leif Erik Maseng spoke to the University of South Carolina Graduates. He had the audacity to walk on to the stage with a Hero who was severely wounded in 2010. Cpl Kyle Carpenter was awarded the Medal of Honor for his action. Cpl Carpenter was wounded when he threw himself on a Grenade. Maseng was injured by wet socks.
(See link at the bottom of this article)

WWII Veteran Maseng spoke of his Jump into Normandy and that he fought through until the end of the War. Only one problem with that, Maseng didn’t go into Normandy (unless it was on vacation years later). All of the Maseng information is attached.

I have written about other fakes and liars, but this is the most disgusting one so far. This happened 16 months ago but only heard of this today December 5, 2015. I received and email about the Plumley article and at the end of the message this person mentioned if I’d ever heard of Leif Erik Maseng. I emailed back and said "no, but I would look into it." It took just 45 minutes to unmask Maseng.

I realized I had documentation on Maseng, so I went out and found the USC Graduation Speech last year with Maseng. Maseng said he was in the 82nd Abn Div which technical is true. He came into the 507th Prcht Inf July 30, 1944. The 507th left the 82nd Abn Div the third week of August 1944 and became part of the 17th Abn Div. So Maseng was there but didn’t see any action with the 82nd Abn Div.

The documentation shows that he got Trench Foot January 18, 1945 in the Ardennes Campaign. Maseng said in the speech he jumped into Normandy which of course it not true as he didn’t get into the 507th Prcht Inf until almost August of 1944 as mentioned.

With Maseng's Trench Foot, he spent 83 days in the hospital, which means he didn’t Jump into Germany either. Maseng never jumped into combat in WWII. His injury was because he didn’t change out his socks and then had the audacity to walk with a Medal of Honor Recipient Cpl Kyle Carpenter. Does a person have no shame at all? There better be a special place in hell for someone like Maseng.

Please read the link about Medal of Honor Recipient Cpl Kyle Carpenter as what he did is where the word Hero comes from.
